The Miami Heat Spices up Fashion Week
Never underestimate the power of the sparkle and Miami International Fashion Week 2010 glistened the whole way through. Models sashayed down the runway wearing the latest styles from designers worldwide, where the theme certainly was glamorous, romantic and glitzy. The event took place at the Miami Midtown Shops, in Miami's Wynwood Art District where it was transformed into a “fashion city” suited for such an event.
The Humanitarian Awards were presented for the first time in the 12-year fashion week history. The legendary jewelry retailer, Tiffany & Co. co-hosted the lavish event to help add just a little more sparkle.
Some designers that had their designs shown on the runway were Mikieda Franklin, with a fabulous swimwear showcase, Nicolas Felizola, who had his male models all in flattering dress suits and Franco Montoro whose designs showcased what true femininity is. No matter which designer took stage, all had a strong sense of raging romanticism with dollops of materials and embellishments such as ruffles, satin, and sequins to really achieve an overall exquisite appeal.
The crowd’s thirsts were quenched when the designs of Eduardo Gonzalez entered the runway as the bright lights allow the shimmering sequins on his evening gowns flicker with energy. His line had a lot of black. But, make no mistake; the look was not your simple little black dress. Each dress had something that was unique such as a deep red liner with a mesh overlay filled with glossy jewels or a rosette neckline that evoked an embellished piece of jewelry instead of merely part of a dress.

Marcel Quadros demonstrated what classy chic really does look like. His styles transformed the cocktail attire into something elegant but fiercely delectable. A short black dress of a simple design is created with ruffles along the waist and sleeves to add just enough oomph to make this appropriate for the everyday woman. He shows how a wardrobe can bring the blazer, one of winter’s favorite pieces, and keep the look fresh for spring with its white tones and sharp edges that make it appropriate over any sundress you have hanging in your closet.
While the fashion was the main squeeze, there were other incredible attractions that guests of the events were able to enjoy such as jewelry and accessories galore, with a large marketplace of everything from fancy clutches to whopping precious stones displayed as a necklace, ring and everything in between. There were also the international chef pavilions, where guests could taste different fine foods from all over such as with Top Chef finalist Ron Duprat. VIP sponsor lounges were also there to please, with the opening night party at SET lounge, the newly opened Klutch where the Afterglow Party took place and Closing Night Wrap Party right in Midtown. Art displays were also set inside the amazing confinement for guests to walk through and take pleasure in.
As the shows wrapped up on Sunday, March 21st the Miami Moda & Music Awards took place which featured special guest designer and receiver of the 1st annual Victoria Puig de Lange International Style Award, Silvia Tcherassi along with celebrity hosts, lleana Garcia and Orlando Leon.
Overall the festivities during this year’s Miami International Fashion Week were elaborate with all the glamour, glitz and the glitter galore; which is exceptional suitable for such a magical city as Miami.
