Johnny Lavoy, The Most Sought After Hair Stylist in New York & the World

by Ramona Flume

With Memorial Day weekend behind us and the beginning of summer, it also signals the beginning of summer makeovers. Here at Popular Hispanics, we love anyone who can make looking good easy in the summer heat. Cue Johnny Lavoy and the Moda-Rey Salon

Ford artist Johnny Lavoy is the most sought after hair stylist in New York. Over the last few seasons his work has become a fixture during NY Fashion week, styling hair for designers Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger, Dior, Cynthia Steffe, Gucci, Custo Barcelona and Swarovski.  Recently L’Oreal designated Johnny as their latest spokes person.

His work can be seen in the pages of Vanity Fair, In Style, Ocean Drive, Glamour, Elle, Seventeen, Modern Salon, People Espanol, American Salon, Zink, Gotham, OK Magazine and Entertainment Weekly among others.  Johnny’s work has also appeared on the red carpet from the Emmys to the Oscars.

Read our interview with the nationally acclaimed stylist and beauty expert to find out how to keep looking your best as the temperatures keep rising.

What inspired you to found Moda-Rey Salon & Spa 20 years ago?

I started doing hair at the age of 14. I had been working in salons after school and during school breaks. At the age of 21 I had already been in the industry for 6 years, and I felt like it was time to work for myself. That was when I decided to open my first salon.

What is your favorite thing about New York Fashion Week?

One of my favorite things about fashion week is just being inspired. Although the pace can be crazy and sometimes annoying, knowing that you are taking part in creating the new trends around the world makes it all worth it. It’s also a great time to reconnect with your peers that you sometimes only see at fashion week.
